About Myself

Background Information

I am a Seattle-born planner with a Bachelor of Science in City and Regional Planning, and a Minor in Studio Art. I have a passion for Urban Design, as well as Public Outreach and Transportation Planning, and am excited to start work in a professional setting. I am proud to say I have been educated under one of the fifteen accredited bachelors planning programs in the United States, and I know that this unique experience has greatly benefited my education as a whole.

Looking at SketchUp Experience

Below is a gallery consisting of SketchUp, ArcGIS, and sections of an Environmental Impact Assessment I was tasked with creating. These projects were done for a multitude of classes over my academic career and have helped me gain valuable software knowledge and expertise.

Timeline

Timeline

This was a 10-week project where my class worked alongside the city of Gilroy, CA, to provide a concept plan of their First Street Corridor. During this 10-week period, my peers and I all collaborated and contributed to gathering background information, conducting an in depth site and SWOT analysis, and creating a professional concept development and final document.

Concept

Conceptual Diagram for Scenario A

The final product saw the completion of four different scenarios, with Scenario A: El Pueblecito being the scenario I worked on. Specifically, I created the ArcGIS Urban renderings for Section 2 of the scenario, the Pedestrian Circulation Map, and a 3D section of the First Street Corridor. I was also involved in assisting my peers with the renderings for the other three sections in this scenario.

Circulation Maps

I created three circulation maps for this project, focusing on motor vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian circulation. These maps focused on showing the routes of travel, as well as the level of intensity for each type of movement through and around the site.

Building Typology

Building Typology

The site is comprised of multi-family residential units and town homes. The town homes are aligned in a linear row pattern and the multi-family residential buildings are dispersed unsystematically. Open spaces like plazas and courtyards are also presented throughout the entire site; the dark green spaces displayed on the building typology map represent public spaces that anyone has access to. On the other hand, semi-public areas, depicted as light green, are areas for certain residents that aren't connected to the main paseo.

Building Height

Building Height

The site consists mainly of medium, low-rise residential, and commercial buildings in a faint blue color in accordance with the legend. The building heights range from one floor to three floors maximum. The residential buildings displayed are curated in order to coincide with the surrounding residential homes already in place. The urban setting of Scenario A is classified as medium-density residential for a traditional neighborhood feel. Therefore, the configuration and alignment of buildings were grouped in areas in similar classifications based on characteristics such as building height and width.

Policy Proposal

False front architecture Example

Architectural Guidelines

A portion of this project was dedicated to creating a policy proposal that dealt with architectural guidelines. As a result, I developed the hypothetical policy that would set the architectural guidelines for new developments in Acton, and would be administered by the Los Angeles Department of Regional Planning. The policy itself would place emphasis on the inclusion of false-front architecture, earth-tone palettes, and a focus on a pedestrian-oriented scale.

Compiling Information

I was also tasked with compiling information on Acton's urban character, such as the architectural elements, the contextualization of new architecture, street characteristics, and general architectural guidelines. Specifically, I focused on creating hypothetical street sections of the existing Crown Valley Road that followed the architectural and trail element guidelines brought up during community outreach events facilitated by my studio.

Trail Mapping

Aliso Canyon Loop Trail Proposal

Aliso Canyon Loop Proposal

I was also responsible for creating a mapped equestrian trail that looped around Aliso Canyon Road and Soledad Canyon Road. Furthermore, I was also responsible for collecting data on land ownership along the trail, by looking at the owners of each parcel that the trail crossed. Additionally, I was responsible for finding which sections of the trail are administered by the Los Angeles County Public Works Department, and which sections are administered by the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department.
